NORTH AMERICA TIME ZONES

- How do I place an Order?
Items can be ordered three ways:
- through our shopping cart. When you place an order using this method you will receive a confirmation of the order by e-mail. This is a confirmation of the placing of the order only. We will then pull the items and ensure everything is in order as well as make any adjustments to the shipping required - we will never ask for additional shipping but will, if the parcel is lighter, reduce the shipping amount.
- by phone, 1-204-667-8635
- by e-mail
If you use options 2 or 3 be sure to note the item number of the item(s) you would like to order.
Remember . . . if you have a spam filter to add our e-mail address ( paladinbooks1@shaw.ca) to your friends list.
Should one or more items in your order have a condition classified as UK [Unknown condition email for $ & condition] we will pull the item then grade and final price the item. If the item is in a less than good condition, we will e-mail you with the full description and the reduced price for your approval. In a case like this, no charges will be made to your credit card until you have approved or declined the item.
- Can I have my books shipped media rate?
We ship by Canada Post which does not offer a media rate. Our options for shipping to the US are: Small Package surface or air for parcels under 1kg (approximately 2.2 lbs) and Expedited Parcel for items over 1kg. Having shipped many thousands of books through the postal system, we are very satisfied with its service and reliability.
- Can I have my books shipped by courier?
Yes, we will ship by courier at your expense. We add a $5.00 surcharge per shipment because of the additional handling this service requires. Also, the courier charges are substantially greater than regular or expedited post.
- How often do you update your catalogs?
Our Internet catalogs are updated daily. As soon as we receive an order, we place the requested book on hold awaiting payment. This information is transferred to our catalog databases within 24 hours.
- How long will it take for my books to arrive?
All orders are shipped by Canada Post within 24 hours of receiving payment. Then it's up to the post office! You can expect a book shipped by surface through Canada Post to arrive at a Canadian destination within three to seven days, longer for remote locations. The average time for US deliveries is 10 business days, though sometimes customs will hold things up for a few extra days. Our overseas customers may wait about two to six weeks for air delivery and five to nineteen weeks for surface deliveries.
- Do you do appraisals?
No. Although we frequently receive requests for appraisals, we do not offer this service.
- Do you do buy books and/or magazines?
The short answer to that is "No". We often receive e-mails offering books and magazines for sale. At this time we are not purchasing stock. Once our backlog of items has been fully cataloged we may change this policy, but even at that point, shipping is a major consideration. Especially on adult items which have to go through customs. It is much easier sending adult material out of Canada, than it is to get it in by mail.
- When you say a book is in very good condition, what does that mean?
Condition: We have tried to keep things as simple as we can, here is our philosophy: We price the item first, then we apply a name to the condition of the item (New, As New, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor etc.) Our description of the condition should let you know what faults, if any, there are to the item, the pictures attached to each item are of the actual item. So if an item is $7.99, and we say it is in 'very good' condition, and when you get it, if you think it is in 'good' condition, we will agree with you. But the price will still be $7.99!
While we do have collectable material, we grade based on reading copy standards. We try to ensure that all flaws have been noted, but, for example, will not go through the book page by page looking for marks or flaws that are not visible with a quick flip through. For magazines we will count the pages to ensure everything is there and note if anything is missing. We only count pages for books if there is some other indication that it may be necessary.
ALL SALES ARE FINAL so please e-mail for information before ordering.
Some magazines are notoriously bad at page numbering. For these magazines, we check that all items that are listed in the table of contents are in the magazine, look for any inconsistencies in the text flow to determine if any pages might be missing and check the staples (if there are any) to ensure they are tight and don't look tampered with.
We cannot guarantee any part of a magazine that is not listed in the contents or on the cover. For example if a particular magazine originally included a supplement, but that supplement wasn't included in the table of contents or mentioned on the front cover, we have no way of knowing it was originally there. If the supplement is noted in the contents or on the cover we will mention if it is included.
For Items In Unknown Condition - the price has been entered only because the program demands a price (the price listed on unknown condition items is usually based on the highest collectible price we know of). Once the item has been requested, the condition and an accurate price will be quoted. The response to your initial order will include all the information available; you make your decision on whether you still want the item at that time.
If you need or want more information about the condition of a book, you can always call or email for assistance.
- When you say a book is in UK condition, what does that mean?
When we list a book as UK, it means we have not examined the item and have not determined what the condition is. The price listed is based on the book/magazine being in good or better condition and is the most you will pay for the item. E-mail us with the book/magazine stock number and/or the title and author (in the case of a magazine the month and year) and we will do the complete listing and any price adjustment necessary, and then send you the results. You then decide whether you want to purchase or pass on the item.
- What if I don't like the book? Can I send it back?
We do not send books on approval. We do our very best to provide detailed and accurate descriptions, with scans or photos of our books so that our customers will know exactly what to expect. If our description of the book is inaccurate and you are dissatisfied, please call us to discuss the problem. We will try to make it right for you! If you are unsure of an item, please phone or e-mail with questions. Should you require additional scans to reassure yourself on the condition or any other facet of the book, we will be happy to provide them (unless doing so could damage the item - for example scans of the interior pages). There is never too much communication before, during or after a transaction.
- Is it safe to send my credit card number by email?
We use a SSL encrypted server to receive your credit card information. None of our customers have reported any problems with credit card transactions via email. Some customers send their credit card numbers in two separate emails. Others send their number by email, then phone in their expiration date at a later time, or do the entire transaction via phone. We ask you to do whatever makes you the most comfortable.
- What is your privacy policy?
At PaladinBooks your privacy is important! The information we collect from you is necessary to process your order but it will be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed to anyone. Furthermore, we use an industry standard firewall to safeguard this personal information. But please keep in mind; "absolute security" does not exist. No credit information is ever stored on the net to help ensure you information stays private. For more information please see our Privacy Policy
- Are all your books listed on the Internet?
No. PaladinBooks has 80,000+ books and magazines in stock, about 10,000 of which are listed on the Internet. We try to list about 100 books and/or magazines a week but even at that rate, and with new arrivals daily, it will take a long time to catalog all our books! If you can't find a book in our catalogs, it doesn't mean we don't have it. E-mail us and we will attempt to locate special items.
